Koji Tabe began drawing in the 1980s, left the manga world for twelve years as a company employee, then returned in the 2000s to carve out a unique position with his densely rendered "kuro-gyaru" (dark-tanned gal) characters. He is an entirely self-taught gekiga artist.
His major works include GALS POLICE 24 and Trans GALS, and Pinsaro Sniper, serialized in Weekly Manga Goraku, broke new ground with a bizarre world steeped in homage to 1970s violence films. His recent work Waruhame (Young Champion) again pairs hard-boiled action with sensuality around a policewoman who puts her body on the line.
He excels at drawing women in Shibuya-style fashion, and his work extends beyond manga magazines to gravure magazines and package art. When it comes to drawing gals, no one does it better.
